What to ask for
- Ask for
- Partial access: Use events dataset Partner access
- Minimum safe access
- Conversion ads and reporting: Use events dataset. Tracking setup or event changes: Manage events dataset.
- Client needs
- Full access (formerly full control) of the business portfolio that owns the dataset, plus your business portfolio ID.
Ask for Partial access: Use events dataset and nothing broader. The smallest role that does the job is easier for the client to approve, easier to audit later, and simpler to remove when the work ends. If the scope of work grows, ask again for the larger role rather than requesting it up front.
| Permission | Level | Lets the agency |
|---|---|---|
| Use events dataset | Partial access | View data, view analytics, create conversion ads with this dataset |
| Manage events dataset | Full access | Also control all settings, add or remove events, edit user access, create audiences |
What the client clicks
Send these steps to the person who holds full access (formerly full control) of the business portfolio that owns the dataset, plus your business portfolio id. Tick them off as you go.
What breaks if the role is wrong
- Too lowUse events dataset: you can't add or remove events, change settings or create audiences.
- Wrong ownerDon't create a new pixel in the agency's portfolio: a dataset can't be deleted or transferred to another portfolio, so keep it in the client's.
- GotchaMeta renamed 'full control' to 'full access'. Some help pages and screens still say 'full control'; they mean the same level.
- GotchaConversion pixels (the old kind) can't be added to a business portfolio and are no longer available for ad creation.
- GotchaDatasets are shared from Data sources → Datasets, not the Partners screen.
- GotchaA dataset can't be deleted or moved to another business portfolio.
