How to give agency access to a Facebook catalog

Last updated · roles checked against Meta help

The short answer

Ask for partial access ("Basic") to run catalog ads: view products, manage product sets and select the catalog in ads. Ask for full access ("Manage everything") only if you'll add or edit products and data sources or change catalog settings.

What to ask for

Ask for
Partial access: Basic Partner access
Minimum safe access
Catalog ads: Basic. Feed or product management: Manage everything.
Client needs
Full access (formerly full control) of the business portfolio that owns the catalog, plus your business portfolio ID (or they can send a share link).

Ask for Partial access: Basic and nothing broader. The smallest role that does the job is easier for the client to approve, easier to audit later, and simpler to remove when the work ends. If the scope of work grows, ask again for the larger role rather than requesting it up front.

What the client clicks

Send these steps to the person who holds full access (formerly full control) of the business portfolio that owns the catalog, plus your business portfolio id (or they can send a share link). Tick them off as you go.

What breaks if the role is wrong

  • Too lowBasic: you can't add or edit products, fix data sources or change settings.
  • Too highManage everything can delete the catalog.
  • GotchaMeta renamed 'full control' to 'full access'. Some help pages and screens still say 'full control'; they mean the same level.
  • GotchaIf the client uses Get link to share instead of the ID, each link works once and expires in 30 days.
  • GotchaConnecting the catalog to other assets also needs full access to those other assets.

Copy this access request

Fill in the blanks and paste it into your email to the client. Nothing you type leaves this page.
