What Meta access do I need to only view a client's ad reports?

Last updated · roles checked against Meta (Facebook & Instagram Ads) help

The short answer

Ask for partner access to the ad account with partial access and "View performance": you can view ads and access reports but can't create or edit ads.

What to ask for

Ask for
Partial access: View performance (ad account) Partner access
Minimum safe access
View performance on the one ad account. Add the Insights task on the Page for Page reporting.
Client needs
Full access (formerly full control) of their business portfolio, plus your business portfolio ID.

Ask for Partial access: View performance (ad account) and nothing broader. The smallest role that does the job is easier for the client to approve, easier to audit later, and simpler to remove when the work ends. If the scope of work grows, ask again for the larger role rather than requesting it up front.

What the client clicks

Send these steps to the person who holds full access (formerly full control) of their business portfolio, plus your business portfolio id. Tick them off as you go.

What breaks if the role is wrong

  • Too lowNo ad account shared: Ads Manager shows nothing for it.
  • Too highManage campaigns lets the agency edit ads and spend when the SOW is reporting only.
  • GotchaMeta renamed 'full control' to 'full access'. Some help pages and screens still say 'full control'; they mean the same level.

Copy this access request

Fill in the blanks and paste it into your email to the client. Nothing you type leaves this page.
