How to give agency access to a Facebook Page

Last updated · roles checked against Meta help

The short answer

Ask for partial access to the Page with only the tasks you need: Content to post, Ads to run Page ads, Insights for reporting (plus Community activity or Messages if you handle comments or inbox). Avoid full access: it isn't needed for agency work.

What to ask for

Ask for
Partial access: Content, Ads and/or Insights (per SOW) Partner access
Minimum safe access
Posting: Content. Page ads: Ads. Reporting: Insights. Add only what the SOW covers.
Client needs
Full access (formerly full control) of the business portfolio, plus your business portfolio ID.

Ask for Partial access: Content, Ads and/or Insights (per SOW) and nothing broader. The smallest role that does the job is easier for the client to approve, easier to audit later, and simpler to remove when the work ends. If the scope of work grows, ask again for the larger role rather than requesting it up front.

What the client clicks

Send these steps to the person who holds full access (formerly full control) of the business portfolio, plus your business portfolio id. Tick them off as you go.

What breaks if the role is wrong

  • Too lowMissing the Ads task: ad creation for the Page fails even with ad account access.
  • Too highFull access lets the partner give and remove other people's access to the Page.
  • GotchaMeta renamed 'full control' to 'full access'. Some help pages and screens still say 'full control'; they mean the same level.
  • GotchaPartners with full access (shown as full control on Meta's partner Page article) still can't delete or deactivate the Page, or connect or disconnect an Instagram account.
  • GotchaTasks are granted one by one: a missing task looks like a broken connection.
