How to give agency access to LinkedIn Ads

Last updated · roles checked against LinkedIn ad account help

The short answer

Ask for Campaign manager. It can create and edit campaigns, ad sets and ads and see performance, but not manage users, edit account details or change billing. Use Viewer for reporting-only work.

What to ask for

Ask for
Campaign manager User access
Minimum safe access
Campaign manager on the one ad account (Viewer for reports). Billing stays with the client.
Client needs
Account manager or Billing admin on the ad account.

Ask for Campaign manager and nothing broader. The smallest role that does the job is easier for the client to approve, easier to audit later, and simpler to remove when the work ends. If the scope of work grows, ask again for the larger role rather than requesting it up front.

What breaks if the role is wrong

  • Too lowViewer or Creative manager: you can't create campaigns or ad sets.
  • Too highAccount manager can add and remove users and edit account details.
  • GotchaAd-account roles don't include Page permissions, which you need to create ads, download Lead Gen Form leads or manage Landing Pages.
  • GotchaEvery ad account must keep a Billing admin; it's automatically the person who created it.
  • GotchaPeople added in Business Manager can reach the ad account from Business Manager or Campaign Manager.
