What to ask for
- Ask for
- Partial access: Manage campaigns Partner access
- Minimum safe access
- Running ads: Manage campaigns. Reporting only: View performance.
- Client needs
- Full access (formerly full control) of the business portfolio that owns the ad account, plus your business portfolio ID.
Ask for Partial access: Manage campaigns and nothing broader. The smallest role that does the job is easier for the client to approve, easier to audit later, and simpler to remove when the work ends. If the scope of work grows, ask again for the larger role rather than requesting it up front.
| Permission | Level | Lets the agency |
|---|---|---|
| Manage campaigns | Partial access | View ads, create and edit ads, access reports |
| View performance | Partial access | View ads, access reports |
| Manage Creative Hub mockups | Partial access | View, create and edit Creative Hub mockups |
| Manage ad accounts | Full access | Everything above plus ad account settings, finances and permissions |
What the client clicks
Send these steps to the person who holds full access (formerly full control) of the business portfolio that owns the ad account, plus your business portfolio id. Tick them off as you go.
What breaks if the role is wrong
- Too lowView performance: you can see ads and reports but can't create or edit ads.
- Too highManage ad accounts (full access) also controls ad account settings, finances and permissions.
- GotchaMeta renamed 'full control' to 'full access'. Some help pages and screens still say 'full control'; they mean the same level.
- GotchaOnce an ad account is in a business portfolio, its permissions can only be changed from the portfolio, not from Ads Manager settings.
- GotchaRunning ads for a Page also needs Page access (Ads task or full access).
