What to ask for
- Ask for
- Partner access to the Instagram profile with partial access (Content, Ads or Insights) Partner access
- Minimum safe access
- Posting: Content. Ads: Ads plus ad-account access (Manage campaigns). Reporting: Insights.
- Client needs
- An Instagram professional account added to their business portfolio, and full access to that portfolio.
Ask for Partner access to the Instagram profile with partial access (Content, Ads or Insights) and nothing broader. The smallest role that does the job is easier for the client to approve, easier to audit later, and simpler to remove when the work ends. If the scope of work grows, ask again for the larger role rather than requesting it up front.
| Permission | Level | Lets the agency |

| Ads | Partial access | Create, manage and delete ads for the account |
| Insights | Partial access | See how the account, content and ads perform |
| Everything | Full access | Also give and remove access and manage the payment method to run ads |
What the client clicks
Send these steps to the person who holds an instagram professional account added to their business portfolio, and full access to that portfolio. Tick them off as you go.
What breaks if the role is wrong
- Too lowAds task without ad account access, or without the account connected to a Page: Instagram ads can't run.
- Too highFull access can give or remove other people's access and manage the payment method.
- GotchaMeta renamed 'full control' to 'full access'. Some help pages and screens still say 'full control'; they mean the same level.
- GotchaInstagram ads need the professional account connected to a Facebook Page, plus access to the ad account.
- GotchaA partner with full access to the Page can't connect or disconnect Instagram from it; the client must do that.
- GotchaEach Instagram account can only belong to one business portfolio.
