What LinkedIn access do I need to run ads for a client?

Last updated · roles checked against LinkedIn help

The short answer

Ask for Campaign manager on the ad account plus Content admin on the Company Page. Ad-account roles don't include the Page permissions you need to create ads, download Lead Gen Form leads or manage Landing Pages.

What to ask for

Ask for
Campaign manager (ad account) + Content admin (Page) User access
Minimum safe access
Campaign manager on the one ad account. Not Account manager unless you manage users.
Client needs
Account manager or Billing admin on the ad account; Super admin on the Page for the Page role.

Ask for Campaign manager (ad account) + Content admin (Page) and nothing broader. The smallest role that does the job is easier for the client to approve, easier to audit later, and simpler to remove when the work ends. If the scope of work grows, ask again for the larger role rather than requesting it up front.

What the client clicks

Send these steps to the person who holds account manager or billing admin on the ad account; super admin on the page for the page role. Tick them off as you go.

What breaks if the role is wrong

  • Too lowViewer: reports only, no campaign edits.
  • MissingNo Page role: you can't create ads as the Page or download leads.
  • GotchaOnly Billing admins and Account managers can add people to the ad account.
  • GotchaTo be added to the Page you must follow it and be a 1st–3rd degree connection.

Copy this access request

Fill in the blanks and paste it into your email to the client. Nothing you type leaves this page.
